Profile
When you support BVCA's food pantry and basic needs programs, you are helping keep food on the table and the lights on in the homes of Jefferson County families.
Some eye-opening numbers from the 2024-2025 fiscal year:
2,387 boxes of food distributed by the Jefferson County Food Pantry
36 people received emergency shelter, rapid-rehousing and/or transitional housing from being homeless
36 people received rent assistance
68 people were helped with utilities
630 people were helped with basic needs by BVCA's Family and Community Services Center in Fairbury
Increased volume, lower donations and uncertainty regarding the regional food bank took a toll on BVCA's ability to assist with basic needs last year. In October, the food pantry was diminished to only having some canned fruit and beans available. It is also very difficult to maintain funding for rent and utility assistance. The need for these things in our community is clear and demonstrated.
There is reason for optimism, of course. When BVCA notified the public of the dire state of the food pantry in October 2025, many in the area responded. Churches and businesses held drives. Individuals brought in food and monetary donations. Media outlets reported on the need. Due to this great response, the pantry was well-stocked throughout the holiday season. We believe that the Jefferson County community can work together to ensure that access to the most fundamental of human needs remains available here. Please support our efforts with a donation.
