Diller Opera House

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

The main floor of the Diller Opera House was most recently renovated in 2011-2012 and has become a versatile event venue perfect for gatherings of all kinds.  Funds raised would be used for upgrades in the kitchen and bar areas to enhance the use of the building.  Additional funds would also be used for  the new main street lights on the Opera House.

Mission

The Diller Opera House is an historic three-story building built in 1912-1913 with funds donated by Anna C. Diller, widow of W. H. Diller who was the son of Samuel Diller, for whom the town is named.  The Opera House is significant in the area of social history as it gave Diller a neutral, non-affiliated location for Decoration Day exercises, commencements, and meetings.  In the days before radio, television and sound movies, activities at the opera house were anticipated for days and weeks ahead of time.  The Anna C. Diller Opera House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Profile

The Diller Opera House is a hub for community activities with events like the D.R.E.A.M. fundraiser which promotes community togetherness and fellowship and supports the Diller Community Foundation Fund.  The Opera House also hosts other community events such as the annual Shrimp Feed.  The Diller Opera House has become an integral part of the community, fostering connection and celebration through its events and activities.
