Founded in 1992 as the Nebraska Council on Compulsive Gambling, the Nebraska Council on Problem Gambling (NeCPG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and the sole Nebraska affiliate of the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG).

As gambling becomes normalized with widespread availablity, gambling-related harm is a growing concern. Gambling Disorder (GD) is recognized in the DSM-5 Manual as a "Substance-Related and Addictive Disorder" similar to more familiar addictions. While it is medically-recognized in a similar fashion to other addiction struggles, prevention and treatment of Gambling Disorder is less prevalent. Those struggling as problem gamblers are less likely to pursue treatment than those with other addictions, and have suicide attempt rates higher than any other addiction.

NeCPG is committed to reducing gambling-related harm amongst all Nebraskans by providing education, screening, and prevention services, along with directing struggling gamblers and their loved ones to free treatment services. NeCPG focuses services on populations more vulnerable to problematic gambling behavior, such as youth and teens, individuals in Substance Use Disorder recovery, and individuals struggling with poverty.
